OS X 10.11 El Capitan Breaks Microsoft intellipoint drivers

A word of warning for anyone that uses OS X with Microsoft mice. Today Apple released OS X 10.11 El Capitan. This update brings a few new features as well as performance improvements to the Mac operating system. However, it appears that El Capitan breaks support for Microsoft's intellipoint drivers.

While Microsoft mice still work for basic mouse functions, advanced features no longer work. For example, extra button functions beyond the basic two button mouse functions, like back and forward buttons, do not work. Additionally, the intellipoint software does not recognize what mouse is being used.

Simply all this means is that Microsoft needs to update the intellipoint software, and drivers to fully support Apple's new OS. In the meantime, if you rely on any additional buttons on Microsoft's mice on a Macintosh, you should hold off on updating to OS X El Capitan until Microsoft releases an up dated driver for its mice.
